Abdul Mutallib Muktar The tragedy is about a veteran, brave and ambitious Scottish general called Macbeth. (Though, the ambition is planted into him as we shall see below). He is a warlord and kinsman to the Scottish king, Duncan. Because of his bravery and experience in war, his land always emerges victorious over her enemies. While wandering with his friend, Banquo, a general also, discussing their victory in the recent war they fought (offstage), they suddenly become surprised when they meet three witches in a wild appearance. The witches tell them a prophecy. They reveal that Macbeth will be king of Scotland and Thane of Cawdor. They also hail him as the Thane of Glamis. When Banquo asks of his own fortunes, they give him a paradoxical answer that he would be less than Macbeth, yet more happier, less successful, yet more.
